Who we are...
Loyal Shelties raises vigorous, healthy, sable and white AKC Shetland Sheepdogs that will make loyal and affectionate pets for people of all ages. All pups go to their new homes with dewclaws removed, vaccinations and de-wormings up to date, and health checked by our veterinarian.
Many breeders remove dewclaws, administer vaccinations and de-wormings themselves; but I prefer to have our veterinarian do these things so that the customer will be confident that it was indeed done and done correctly. Even more importantly, perhaps, is the fact that the puppies are looked over by the vet at 3 days of age when their dewclaws are removed and again at 6 weeks of age when they have an even more thorough exam and receive the vaccinations and de-worming. Our veterinarian still makes house calls so the puppies are not traumatized by being loaded up and driven to the vet's office.
To be sure that each puppy has a steady weight gain and is healthy, I weigh each puppy at birth and at least 2 times a week thereafter. The customer is given a health certificate which includes a copy of the puppy's weight chart, information on the vaccinations, de-wormings and vet check, and a health guarantee (see the complete guarantee below). A puppy care booklet is also sent home with each puppy.
Puppies are handled daily and well-socialized. As they grow, they are exposed to different sights and sounds to make the transition to their new home easier. By the time the puppies are about 3 weeks old, they are each held and carried around for a time each day. Extra time is taken with puppies who seem to be on the shy side. Except in extreme weather, the pups are taken outside for a time every day when they are old enough. This makes house-training much easier later on. Before going to their new homes, the puppies have been for car rides, practiced going up and down steps, played with other dogs, and often times, they get to play with children.
Interested customers are sent email updates at least every two weeks which include current pictures, weight gain information, and any other news concerning the puppy chosen.
We are located in south-central Wisconsin, about one hour south of Madison. For folks coming from a long distance away, I may be able to meet you part way. Because I want to do everything possible to ensure that the puppies will be in homes where they will be well-cared for, I will not sell to pet stores or brokers. I do ask interested customers a few questions to determine if their situation is suitable for raising a puppy.
Email me loyalshelties@tds.net with any questions you might have. Thank you so much!

Making a Loyal Sheltie your very own
These puppies were born in November, 2010, to Jeannie (Sire: Billy). In this picture, they are three weeks old.
Within the first week after puppies are born, I contact folks who have asked to be notified. I send them pictures and details on each of the newborns. (To be added to the list email me at loyalshelties@tds.net.) At two to three weeks of age, I begin to advertise the puppies.
If anyone sees a puppy they would like to have, I ask for a deposit to reserve the puppy for them. When the deposit is received, I send an email with the puppy's pictures to confirm that it is indeed the puppy they have chosen. I also send a receipt by mail. At that time, I no longer advertise that puppy. The balance is due at the time the puppy is picked up. To avoid having the occasional "bad check", I ask that the final payment be made with cash. And again, I give the customer a written receipt for the payment.
Folks who are interested in seeing the puppies "in person" before choosing one, are welcome to come for a visit after the puppies are about 10 days old. Visits are by appointment only, Monday through Saturday.
Puppies begin to go to their new homes between 7 and 8 weeks of age. Up until that time, customers will be sent email updates with their chosen pup's progress along with current pictures.
Upon taking the puppy home, the customer will be given the puppy's health information which includes a growth chart beginning at birth, information on the veterinarian-administered vaccinations and de-worming, and a signed copy of Loyal Sheltie's one-year health guarantee.
Loyal Shelties is located in south-central Wisconsin. If you are coming from a long distance, I may be able to meet you part way for a small fee. I do not do any business on Sunday. Emails sent or phone messages left on Sunday will be answered as soon as possible on Monday morning. Visits to see puppies or pick up puppies will be scheduled only for Monday through Saturday.
Please email me at loyalshelties@tds.net with any questions you might have. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for taking a look at Loyal Shelties!
Loyal Shelties - Health Guarantee
Loyal Shelties guarantees the puppy to be in good general health at the time of sale. The puppy will be current on vaccinations and dewormings as of the date of sale. The buyer will have 3 days (72 hours) from the time they receive the puppy to have it examined by a licensed veterinarian of their choice. If the veterinarian finds any previously undetected health problems at that time, Loyal Shelties will, upon return of the puppy along with a written, signed and dated statement by the buyer's veterinarian detailing the health problems affecting the puppy, refund the full purchase price listed below. Failure by the buyer to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving the puppy, will render this paragraph of the guarantee void.
Loyal Shelties guarantees for a period of one year from the date of the puppy's birth that the puppy is free from life-threatening congenital conditions requiring treatment. If it is discovered by a licensed veterinarian that the puppy has a life-threatening congenital condition requiring treatment, Loyal Shelties will refund the full purchase price listed below after being provided within ten days of the diagnosis, with a written, signed and dated statement by the buyer's licensed veterinarian detailing the life-threatening congenital condition. Loyal Shelties accepts no responsibility for any veterinarian bills.
In the event of the puppy's death within one year from the date of the puppy's birth, Loyal Shelties will refund the full purchase price listed below if the death is found to be caused by a congenital condition. A written report stating the cause of death, signed and dated by the customer's licensed veterinarian, is required within ten days of the puppy's death.
This guarantee applies only to the below signed buyer and is not transferable if the puppy, or any interest in the puppy, is sold, leased, or in any other way transferred to a third party, unless written permission to do so has been first obtained from the seller.
